I love leading a life that has multiple artistic outlets. Whether it's solo music, from unaccompanied recitals to Concertos, or chamber music, like loadbang and the Lang/Rainwater Project, or freelancing in everything from Salsa and Big Band gigs to Grand Opera and Broadway and commercial recordings, I find a great joy in making art in any situation!
My Ensembles:
loadbang - The 21st Century ensemble. Consisting of Baritone Voice, Bass Clarinet, Trumpet, and Trombone, loadbang has single handily created an entire repertoire from scratch, with over 650 pieces having been written for us to date, including many works from Pulitzer, MacArthur, Rome, and von Siemens awardees, among many other accolades.
the Lang/Rainwater Project - William and pianist Anne Rainwater are redefining what it means to be a trombone and piano duo, through commissioning and cutting edge transcription work. If you need an ensemble that can truly do anything on their instruments, this is where you should be looking.
My Teaching:
Manhattan School of Music - here I teach for the Contemporary Performance Program, of which I am a proud alumni from! We focus on solo, chamber, and all around musicianship with a specialty on extended techniques and 21st century instrumental practice.
the Longy School of Music - This small but amazing conservatory located right next to Harvard in historic Cambridge is for Masters Students who want to follow their own musical path in a caring environment. Here you have the opportunity to really follow your heart, with multiple pathways to a professional career all at your fingertips.
Brooklyn Brass Academy - This is my new online academy for younger students who are looking to find their art and be competitive at the highest level in everything from all-state auditions through International Competitions. With work and care, almost anything is possible! There are limited spots available - please send a message to find out it this is the right fit for you!
My Equipment
Stephens Horns - I am the proud owner of one of these fantastic horns, having been personally fitted by Steve Shires at the 2022 ITF in Conway, AR. Check out my Instrument Journey up on YouTube to learn more!
Long Island Brass Mouthpieces - When I visited Jeff at LI Brass he pulled out this one special mouthpiece that no one else had been able to use on tenor trombone, and as soon as I played it I knew it was for me. This is a 550E prototype, and one of the loveliest pieces for pure sound that I've ever found. To hear it in action and see a review, please take a listen here.
